Standing Buddha

Dvaravati (Wat Na Phra Men), 7c
National Museum, Bangkok

This chaste and slender standing Buddha, with its finely carved transparent garments, is fashioned in a style that seems to derive from Gupta precursors.

The 7th century date, given above, is from the museum guidebook; the exhibit label dates it to the 8th-9th century.
