Sea-goddesses

"Leper King" Terrace, Angkor Thom

The lowest band of reliefs on the terrace represents the world of the sea. Here a sea-goddess rides on a crab, and others ride various fanciful sea-creatures, among the fish swimming in the waters. In this regard, see also the Large Pond reliefs; there is a conceptual unity of design, that suggests to me the guiding hand of a single lead architect, throughout the palace area.
