South Entrance

Angkor Thom, Cambodia

The south approach to Jayavarman VII's royal capital is marked by a causeway and naga bridge, as at Preah Khan, with devas and asuras pulling the snake (see next page). The causeway leads across a moat to the South Gate of the city.

The outer wall of Angkor Thom measures an enormous square that is 3km (1.8 miles) on each side, for a total length of 12km, or 7.2 miles.
