Two-Story Pavilion

Preah Khan, Angkor

This two-story building, unusual because of its round columns, is claimed in legend to have held the sacred sword ("Preah Khan") of the Khmer kings. The reality may be far more prosaic; Freeman and Jacques (p.173) note that it might have been a granary. The building is located north of the Hall of Dancers (next page), from where this photo was taken.
