Sita Amman Temple

Nuwara Eliya District, Sri Lanka

This attractive, modern Hindu temple is built near the legendary site in Sri Lanka where Ravana held Sita captive (see: Ramayana). The top of the roof is imaged here. From right to left, we see: a large tower; horse-head Kalki, the final avatar of Vishnu; Krishna (in blue), playing the flute; Vamana, the dwarf avatar, carrying umbrella; Parasurama in green; another avatar; Sita; and Rama (in blue); in front of them kneels Hanuman, in green. The temple is located near Nuwara Eliya, about 50 km (30 mi) in the hill country south of Kandy.
