Pillar

Gadaladeniya Temple, Kandy, Sri Lanka

The form and decoration of this pillar can be compared to examples like the Krishna Temple at Vijayanagara. Unlike that Indian temple, the colonette here remains attached to its larger pillar, although its vertical attachment has been cut through into a series of medallions. The main pillar is treated geometrically, with rectangular and hexagonal facets alternating up and down its length.
