Heungnye-mun

A guard ceremony is reenacted in front of the Heungnyemun gate (marked as #1 on the palace map). This gate was originally built in 1426, under the name Hongnyemun. It was renamed to Heungnyemun when it was rebuilt in 1867. During the Japanese occupation (1916), Heungnyemun was demolished to make way for the Japanese HQ (General Government Building). Eventually The Japanese building was demolished, and Heungnyemun reconstructed, beginning in 1995.
