Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara

Gwaneumjeon Hall, Bulguksa Temple (map)
East Gyeongju, Korea

The savior Bodhisattva (Skt. Avalokiteshvara, Kr. Gwaneum, Ch. Guan-yin, Jp. Kannon) is popular in Korean Buddhism, as everywhere else. His mandorla, the lower part of which is seen here, depicts the thousand hands that he uses to save sentient beings. As usual, a seated image of Amida appears in the crown.
