Porcelain Jar With Underglaze Iron-brown Decoration

Joseon White Ware, 17th century
Gwangju National Museum, Korea

A dragon is painted with iron-brown underglaze on the white porcelain jar. This was a very popular design that appears on innumerable porcelains of the period, for example, in the National Museum of Korea. The composition gives a sense of liveliness and movement to the creature, as his snake-like body is contorted by the wind.
