Carriage and Driver

Muyong Tomb, 5th century A.D.
Ji'an city, Jilin province, China

A covered, bullock-drawn carriage and driver are parked beside a strange-looking tree just to the right of the hunt (previous page). This kind of tree, which is very distinctive in appearance, is seen in other mural tombs including Gakjeochong. Another carriage is visible in the damaged area at the bottom. These carriages were used for personal transport; they are furnished with covered tops, back flaps, and front curtains. See Deokheungri for another example.
