Military Procession

Anak Tomb #3, 357 A.D.
North Korea, Hwanghae Province

A large and vibrant mural (2m x 10m, 6.6ft x 33ft) illustrates Dong Shou's army on the move, with the ruler himself riding a chariot in the center of the composition. In this closeup, armored riders and horses (cataphracts, top of image) guard the army's flanks. Contemporaneous painted scenes and effigy vessels permit detailed reconstructions of Three Kingdoms armor and costume, like the life-size models in Busan's Bokcheondong Museum.
