Jebiwon Buddha
Andong, Korea
The body of the Jebiwon Buddha (Goryeo Dynasty) was carved from a single boulder, and is mostly obscured by the point of view in this photo. Its face and ushnisha were made separately, at a different date. Jebiwon refers to the statue's location, a pass used by travelers. The colossal Buddha is 12m (39ft) high, and represents either Maitreya (Frommers) or Amida (Lonely Planet). The statue's Korean name is Icheondong Seokbulsang.
