The main worship statue in Horyuji's Golden Hall is Shakyamuni (Jp. Shaka), flanked by attendants. The statue, dated 623 A.D., is attributed to Tori Busshi. A Yakushi Triad is also exhibited in the hall, along with many other excellent statues of the period. Compare: an earlier Shaka, dated 609 A.D. and also attributed to Tori Busshi, from Asuka-dera, and see also: Asuka Period Photo Tour, from Mark Schumacher.
