Roof Ornaments

Byodo-in (Phoenix Hall)
Kyoto, Japan

The hall's ridgepole is crowned with phoenix finials, one at either end, in keeping with the architectural theme of the building (don't confuse it with the European phoenix, a different bird.) Tiger heads decorate the roof ends; there are three in this photo, one seen head-on and two in profile.
