Asakusa Kannon Temple Tokyo, Japan

The original temple was the oldest in Tokyo. According to legend, it was founded in 628 AD to hold a golden statue of Kannon which had been miraculously found in the nearby Sumidagawa river. The temple was destroyed and rebuilt numerous times. The present ferroconcrete building is a reconstruction which dates from 1958.
