The 11th century funerary complex of Gunung Kawi ("Marriage Mountain") is sited in the deep valley shown here, surrounded by vegetation, palms and terraced rice fields. The name of the complex is, for once, appropriate, since it is dedicated to the kings and queens of the Udayana Dynasty.
