Pura Taman Ayun
Mengwi, Bali

Taman Ayun was the state temple of the Mengwi Dynasty (1634 - 1891 A.D.). Its grounds are located within a double moat. The temple was built in the mid-18th century by king Cokorda Munggu, and greatly enlarged in the 1930s. Most of the structures and decorations, that are visible today, date from the 1930s construction.

From left to right, the photos on this page proceed up the causeway, across the inner moat in the direction of the temple entrance. The rightmost photo shows the guardian on the left side of the split entrance gate. In the following pages, we will walk in the kaja direction, straight up the center of the temple to its far end, then cross the moat and walk back down along its right side.
