Panel Reliefs

Temple 2, Nalanda
7th century

The base of a Hindu temple, designated as "Temple 2," settles uncomfortably behind Buddhist Monasteries 7 and 8. Its moulding is decorated on all four sides by carvings of gods, musicians, dancers, and fanciful animals. Seen here is the west face of the southwest corner, with reliefs of Lakshmi, a yogin, and a lady musician.
