Bodhisattva

Pala period, 12th century
Prince of Wales Museum, Bombay

The bodhisattva sits in lalitasana (Royal Ease) on a lotus pedestal. His extended right leg rests on a lotus footstool. The bodhisattva's left hand holds the stem of a decorated, unopened lotus bud, while his right hand is extended in the varada mudra of giving. The conical object above his right shoulder is another lotus bud whose stem is missing.
