Chamunda

Chausath Yogini Temple, Hirapur

Fearsome Chamunda, the goddess of death and decay, dances on a jackal (associated with the cremation grounds), beneath a flayed tiger skin. The four-armed goddess wears a garland of skulls, and holds a severed head in her lower left hand. The partially-ruined state of this carving seems appropriate to the nature of such a deity.
