Stone Chariot

Vitthala Temple, Vijayanagara

Looking northeast. The stone chariot is a Garuda shrine which faces west towards Vishnu's temple (plan). Garuda is the mount of Vishnu, and as usual the mount faces the god. The building north of the shrine is a pillared hall used for religious ceremonies.
