Gajalakshmi

Lintel, West Entrance of Jagamohan
Parashurameshvara Temple

As in so many temples - both Buddhist and Hindu - of this period, the lintel above the entrance is decorated with a carving of Lakshmi being lustrated by elephants. In an unusual variation, the elephant at left brings a water jug to the goddess, rather than lustrating her with his trunk. The awkwardly disposed right arm and hand of the deity is displayed in varada mudra.
