Ganesha and ChamundaNorth Wall of Jagamohan
|
The figure to the right is a curious, human-headed sculpture of Ganesh. His trunk is awkwardly carved, seeming to grow out of his chin. To his left is Chamunda, one of the Seven Mothers (saptamatrikas) who are lined up all in a row on the north wall of the entrance hall. Skeletal Chamunda is depicted above her vehicle, the owl, although Ganesh's rat vehicle seems to be absent. Both Ganesh and Chamunda are associated with Shiva: Ganesh as his son, and Chamunda as a fierce manifestation of his consort.
