Henan Provincial Museum

Zhengzhou, Henan

The Henan Museum began in Kaifeng in the 1920's, and relocated to Zhengzhou in 1961. The present building was constructed in 1991, enabling its exhibits to be housed in a state-of-the-art, modern facility. Zhengzhou, the present capital of Henan, is archaeologically best known as the type-site of Erligang, an early Shang culture that flourished before the Anyang period (i.e., before c. 1250 BC).
