Bodhisattva

Rear wall, Fengxian Si, Longmen Caves

A jeweled bodhisattva, with foliate decorations on his crown, is the rightmost member of the pentad that occupies the rear wall (west wall) of the grotto. The Huntington Archive identifies the bodhisattva as Samantabhadra, and the damaged disciple to his right as Kasyapa; the figures are unidentified in Thorp and Howard.
