Shayiweide

Shayiweide (spelling uncertain, copied from the English-language museum label) is the supreme god of the Naxi pantheon. The date of this and other embroidered images (on following pages) was not given by the museum labels, so I will just treat them as traditional images of unknown, but probably modern, date.

A legend says that Wenchang princes brought the technique of embroidery from China to Tibet, from where it diffused to the Lijiang region.
