Bamboo Temple

Kunming, China

Located near Kunming, the Bamboo Temple (Qiongzhu Si; Buddhist) originally dates from the Tang dynasty. It burned down and was rebuilt in the 15th century. During its last major reconstruction, 1883-1890, a Sichuan sculptor named Li Guangxiu and some of his students created a celebrated group of 500 Luohan that is the temple's main attraction for visitors.
