Rubbing From "16 Arhats"

Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Hangzhou

According to the museum's signage, a set of sixteen stone slabs was engraved in 1764 with these figures of Arhats. Displayed here, in the museum, are 20th-century rubbings from those 18th-century steles. The steles themselves are said to be copies of a much earlier set of images by Guan Xiu (832-912), a famous poet-painter from Zhejiang.

The Arhat known (for obvious reasons) as "Long Eyebrows" is shown here.
