Mahavira Hall (Daxiong baodian)

Liao, 1040 or later
Shanhua Si, Datong

The Main Hall of Shanhua Si dates from Liao, having apparently survived the end of that dynasty. It is 7 bays wide - you can count them here - by 5 bays deep, with a hipped roof, and contains a spread of original Buddhist statues (following pages).

See the cutaway diagram of the hall for more architectural information and terminology.
