Attendants of Avalokiteshvara

Cave #9, Beishan Grottoes, Dazu

Attendants are carved within clouds on either side of Avalokiteshvara's mandorla (previous page). At the top are two large rondels, each enclosing a celestial (sun and moon?). Below these are the gods of wind (left photo) and thunder (right photo), then a group of five deities (planets?), then multi-armed deities: Samantabhadra (on elephant, left photo), Yamantaka (on ox, left photo), Mahamayuri (on peacock, right photo), and Manjusri (on lion, right photo). At the bottom, are paired guardians and triads.
